So, I have been in this professional mentoring/coaching program for executives for a while now and I've learned a lot, though I've only been in it for a few months.
The basic concepts are: - Determining what is important to you in your life & where you want your life to go - Developing activities that support the things that are important in your life - Changing your thinking around where you want to go, rather than where you are - Determining what your "gift" is, and developing it - Determining what skills you need to get to where you want to go, and spending the right amount of time to get really good at those skills. I'll post more about it as I go along.

Reading this was quite amazing - I've just recently figured those things out all by myself! Was really getting tired of just doing things out of necessity, and took the time to sit down and really think about what I enjoy. Then look at how I can go about achieving a state of doing only the things that interest me, as far as possible. It's only now, after all these years, that I've finally figured out just what exactly it is that I really want. Now the road to getting there...

So here's some more information:
Identify the areas of your life that are most important to you, and visualize how the will be important to you in 30 years, and what kind of effect that will have on your life 30 years from now.
Then, think about all of the things that you need to do to make each one of those areas become what you imagine.
It's really a process of looking at your life like a project. Identify what you want the end product to look like, then work backward on what things you will have to do to get there. It makes a lot of sense. We all want our lives to turn out a certain way, but we mostly float through life hoping that our "dreams" will somehow magically come true. That would be pretty unreasonable from a project view. You would not undertake a large-scale project without a good deal of planning and scope definition and whatnot and just "hope" that the end product comes out how you imagined. It seems pretty crazy to think it could ever happen, but almost everyone does that with their lives. Including me.

Thanks! That's an excellent way of looking at things! And it's never too late to start, either... just look at the likes of Ray Crock, etc...

Hopefully it is helpful. I'll say that the course I'm going through is & has been interesting. It's a lot better than one of the week long deals - after I take one of those classes, I may act differently for a week or two, but this is spread out over a year and they make you pretty much constantly be thinking about these things.

Oh definitely! It does help to put things more into perspective too. I suppose one could plan it to be an interesting journey too & have loads of fun with the project?

Not much of a drinker... can't even remember the last time I got pissed, but I'm sure the sex can be worked into just about any project you can imagine! As long as you don't get caught, that is!

Speaking of drinking, I found a great drinking trick - taking vodka and filtering through a britta (charcoal filter) pitcher about 6 times. It is SMOOTH.

Really? The only filter I've ever used is my kidneys!!! What's the difference in taste? Can you be more specific? I'm having difficulty trying to imagine vodka as being smooth...

What I find smooth is Liquorice liqueur, like Opal Nera Sambuca. That slips down very nicely.

By smooth, I mean it tastes like water, with a slight alchohol aftertaste.
