I have no idea how this is going to work long term, but I've written an RSS news injector for SMF.  It's adding news at about 15 items every 10 minutes.  It's going to get to be a crap load of news in no time.

I largely did it because I read google news or one of the others, but I just WISH I could actually SAY something about that news.

There isn't a lot of intelligence yet in the injector, so if a news source posts two different stories, it'll be posted twice here, and likewise if two different news outlets that the forum subscribes to posts a similar story, there will be two stories here.  I want to get to a point of aggregating them, but given my schedule, getting just this done was quite a feat.

I'm very interested in feedback about the changes and ideas that you might have to make it more useable.

I don't mean to be a whiny bitch or anything but.....

I come to the main page, and I want to see the latest "real" posts. If i want to read the news I'll go to google, but all it did was piss me off cos, i had to go flicking between all the pages just to find the latest posts.

I'd say if you really want to keep it, put it in a place where it doesn't clog up the rest of the forum.

Also i apologise for not being around lately.... I've been flat out at work, I've had to create an specific accounting program for a bank... and the testing involved has been nuts. I'm talking about 15 hour days. But after New Year i'll be back here again

I'm going to pull the news off of the main page as soon as I have some time (hopefully tonight).  I'm glad to hear from you again.  I hope you have a great Christmas and new years and I'll see you back later!

I couldn't take it anymore.  The deluge of news was just too much.  I'm going to experiment with it elsewhere.

Finally i got back from holiday today~~~~ bought a psp duty free. Very awesome. Unfortuately, I have to go back to work tomorrow. Good to see that i haven't missed much around here

It's been pretty slow.  I think the unfortunate experiment with news scared people away Smiley

Anyhow, I hope you had a good holiday.  Unfortunately, I've been working straight through.
